Laurie Trees Flores B.A.-Teacher/Director Laurie Trees Flores has been dancing since the age of 10. She has a passion for teaching dance which developed at the age of 13 when she was asked by one of her dance teachers to be an assistant teacher. She enjoys teaching all ages from the recreational dancer to the advanced students. She is dedicated to her students and committed to not only teaching dance but in also building character, a good work ethic, cooperation with others, discipline, confidence and a great self-image. She feels there are so many life skills a dance student can learn from a dance education. Laurie focuses on teaching good technique for students at all levels. She is determined to not only provide a positive and energetic learning environment, but to help young people excel at their current level of dance and gain positive life experiences. Laurie feels that her teaching is about more than dance, it's about motivating young people to be the best they can be. Laurie inspires dancers with her passion, humor and creativity. Laurie received her bachelor's degree in Theatre / Dance from the University of Texas at Arlington 1991. While in college Laurie danced with 2 college dance companies. Laurie has been the director and choreographer of Stage Door School of Dance since 1985 when she opened the school. Laurie has choreographed for Midlothian Community Theatre and Waxahachie Community Theatre. She directed the Midlothian Dance Theatre for 5 years from 1985 - 1990. Laurie was the dance teacher and drill team director for Midlothian High School from 1989 - 90. She has choreographed for plays for KD studios in Dallas and worked on their costume committee and for the University of Texas' Theatre Department. Laurie keeps up with her own training by attending workshops and conventions with master teachers. She enjoys traveling to New York City to study with the "greats" in dance, as well. Laurie is a member of Dance Educator's of America and the Dallas Dance Council and Midlothian Chamber of Commerce.
